**The Uniform** 2024
Uniforms serve dual purposes: providing necessary protection for performing tasks and communicating one's role to others. In a hospital setting, uniforms play a crucial role in indicating individuals' roles and hierarchy, from security personnel and medical assistants to nurses and doctors in their distinct white coats. Maintaining order is fundamental to ensuring the smooth functioning of a hospital environment.

In the art world, uniforms have been less explored, with notable exceptions such as Joseph Beuys and his distinctive vest and hat, resembling a beekeeper's attire. Uniforms can also serve as disguises, as seen with the feminist collective Guerrilla Girls, allowing individuals to remain anonymous while making a collective statement. However, more commonly, uniforms are used simply to protect clothing from paint and other hazards.
Upon acquiring a navy blue jumpsuit, I recognized the potential of wearing a uniform in an environment already accustomed to various types of attire. By adorning it with crafts that showcase artistic skills, I transformed it into a walking display, akin to a menu. Proudly displaying a printed butterfly on my back, I aimed for instant recognition, even among staff I had never met before. This endeavor proved successful, as my distinctive attire garnered attention and sparked conversations wherever I went.
Now, individuals from all corners of the hospital approach me, affirming that I am indeed the artist they've heard about. These interactions lead to meaningful conversations about how I can contribute to enriching the lives of hospital staff. Thus, my uniform not only facilitates recognition but also serves as a catalyst for forging connections and fostering dialogue that ultimately enhances the hospital community.
